Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to our most common questions below. Don't see yours? Contact us directly.

How do I submit samples?
You can submit samples through our online portal, by mail, or via in-person drop-off at our Austin headquarters or satellite locations. Register for a free account on our client portal to generate barcoded labels and track your orders in real time. For shipping, we recommend FedEx or UPS overnight service with cold packs for temperature-sensitive samples.
What is the minimum sample requirement for Sanger sequencing?
For premixed submissions, we require a minimum of 200 ng plasmid DNA or 500 ng PCR product mixed with 3.2 pmol primer in a total volume of 12 µL. For template + primer submissions, send DNA and primer in separate tubes. DNA should be in water or EB buffer (no EDTA). We accept both individual tubes and 96-well plate formats.
What file formats do you deliver?
Sanger sequencing results include ABI trace files (.ab1), FASTA sequences, and quality scores. Fragment analysis data includes GeneMapper output files and sizing tables. NGS data is delivered in FASTQ format (raw reads), BAM (aligned reads), and VCF (variant calls). All data is accessible through our secure client portal with direct download links.
Do you offer volume discounts?
Yes! Volume discounts are applied automatically based on the number of reactions per order. Pricing tiers start at 24 reactions, with the best rates at 96+ reactions. We also offer annual service agreements for high-volume clients and special academic pricing for university core facilities. Contact us for a customized quote.
What is your turnaround time for Sanger sequencing?
Standard turnaround for Sanger sequencing is 24-48 hours from sample receipt. Same-day rush service is available for samples received before 2PM CST at no additional charge for qualifying orders (96+ reactions). Weekend processing is available by special arrangement for urgent projects.
Can you design custom primers for my project?
Absolutely. Our scientific team provides free primer design consultation for sequencing projects. We maintain an extensive stock of universal primers for common vectors (pUC19, pET, pGEM, pcDNA3, pBluescript, M13) at no additional charge. For custom primers, we can order through our preferred vendors with typical delivery in 2-3 business days.
Do you provide bioinformatics analysis for NGS data?
Yes, comprehensive bioinformatics analysis is available for all NGS applications. Our standard pipeline includes quality trimming, alignment, variant calling (for WGS/WES), or differential expression analysis (for RNA-seq). Advanced analyses including pathway enrichment, phylogenetics, and custom scripting are available as add-on services. All pipelines are version-controlled and documented for reproducibility.
Are you CLIA certified for clinical testing?
Yes, Monte Biotech holds CLIA certification and CAP accreditation for clinical diagnostic testing. We can provide results suitable for clinical decision-making, regulatory submissions, and patient reporting. Our quality management system is ISO 17025 accredited and GLP compliant for preclinical studies.
How long do you retain samples and data?
Physical samples are retained for 30 days after data delivery unless otherwise arranged. All electronic data (trace files, FASTQ, analysis reports) is archived on redundant cloud storage for a minimum of 5 years per ISO 17025 requirements. Extended retention or sample return can be arranged upon request at no additional charge.
Do you work with international clients?
Yes, we serve clients in over 30 countries. International shipping is supported via FedEx International Priority and DHL Express. We can provide all necessary import/export documentation for biological materials. Payment is accepted in USD via wire transfer, credit card, or institutional purchase order. Our team is experienced with USDA/APHIS permits for regulated materials.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept institutional purchase orders (Net 30 terms for approved accounts), credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, AMEX), wire transfers, and checks. Academic clients with established accounts can use departmental charge numbers. We are registered as a vendor with most major US universities and can provide W-9 and vendor registration documentation upon request.
